What to Expect | Session Information

ct newborn photographerI encourage all of my clients to schedule your newborn’s session before you have your baby.  I currently book 2-4 months in advance, and believe me, you will have enough to do when that bundle of joy arrives!  We will connect beforehand and discuss whether you would like a perfectly posed session in my Norwalk, CT studio (in Silvermine) with all props included, OR an in-home lifestyle session.  I mark your due date in my calendar, and when you give birth, you simply email or call me, and we schedule your session from there.  If you’re reading this with your sweet baby already in your arms, please don’t hesitate to contact me.  There is a chance that with an early or late arrival of a newborn on my calendar, that I could fit you in.

The optimum time frame for when to hold your newborn session is between 7 and 15 days after birth.  This helps to avoid the peak point of jaundice, but still gets them at their ‘newest’ when they are the most sleepy and moldable into those adorable positions.  After 2 weeks, your newborn becomes more alert and a bit more difficult to settle into those cute poses you see on my website.  All that being said, I certainly won’t turn away a chance to capture your new bundle of joy while they are still a newborn.  I consider this limit to be at 6 weeks old, and suggest waiting until your baby is 3 months if you have passed that milestone.

You can expect your newborn session to last between 2-3 hours.  This leaves time for nursing/feeding sessions and inevitable diaper changes and clean-ups.  I photograph about 150 newborns a year and provide you with a complete preparation guide prior to your session.

In-studio sessions are preferable when you want a more posed session, have limited space and natural light in your home, or just don’t feel like cleaning it up for pictures!  Most of my new moms actually LOVE having a morning or afternoon to get up, shower, do your hair and makeup and GET OUT OF THE HOUSE!

ct maternity photographyFirst, congratulations!  It’s such an honor for me to take part in documenting such a special time in your life.

Maternity sessions generally take place in your 8th month.  This is the time to really capture that true baby bump, but also the time before you feel your most uncomfortable.

My only goal is to capture your pregnant beauty, and I prefer to do maternity sessions outside in natural light with the backdrop of the beauty of nature.  I love the idea of capturing the season in which you are expecting….yes, I happily do these in the snow.  🙂

We will discuss all of the details of your 45 minute session beforehand.  I always encourage at least one outfit change and the participation of your partner.  Most importantly, I want to hear what you would like out of your session, and if it means you want an in-studio capture of your pregnant self,  we can also make that happen in my Norwalk, CT studio.

These sessions are designed to capture your growing baby up until the first birthday.  Most of my clients choose to capture their little ones at 3 months, 6 months (usually the sitting milestone) and 1 Year.  These 45 minute sessions can occur on location or in my Norwalk, CT studio, and I do offer a MILESTONE MEMORIES PACKAGE (newborn, 6 month, 1 yr). Please see my Pricing Page for more information.  The 1 Year Cake Smash session includes a custom set up and design.  Due to liability to related to food allergies, I no longer include the cake, but I can offer suggestions of a few wonderful local bakeries.  Mini Milestone Sessions are designed to just capture your baby, but I always encourage parents to get in one shot.  I do NOT charge extra for twins and love, love, love multiples.

familySessions with me are relaxed and fun. I aim to capture REAL emotions, REAL love, REAL smiles & laughter – REAL life!  While I think every family session should include a posed shot, I much prefer capturing those candid moments that are true to who your children are, and get to the heart of your family.  My sessions take on a story-telling approach, so you will never hear me yell “say cheese!”.  Instead, I’ll probably engage you in a tickle fight, ask you to throw your kid up in the air, and I’ve even been known to break out some bubbles.  Your boys don’t stay still? NO PROBLEM!  I prefer them that way.

In advance of your session, we’ll talk or exchange e-mails about your desires and expectations. We’ll determine an ideal location – anything from your home, to your favorite park, to my favorite gelato shop by my home! You may also choose to have your session inside at my Norwalk, CT studio.  I’ll give you ideas on what to wear & provide guidance for all the little details.

You should plan on the session lasting between 60-90 minutes.  Because I prefer to use all natural light when working with your family, sessions may be rescheduled due to weather.
